Mentoring
Mentors Make a Difference
“I feel that my son’s mentor is the best thing that could have ever happened for him. Since he has been with his mentor he is a totally different kid. Thank you!” ~ Mom
“My child always looks forward to spending time with his mentor.” ~ Dad
“I always have a great time with my mentor. She can always make a bad situation I have into a positive one. She and her family make me feel like a part of them.” ~ Mentee
“I didn’t realize I would get so much out of being a mentor.” ~ Mentor
Mentors help to empower youth in our community to make positive life choices that enable them to maximize their potential. The mentoring program utilizes adult volunteers to commit to supporting, guiding, and being an additional role model to local youth ages 8-17. Mentors meet one on one or in group settings a minimum of one hour per week for a period of one year.
TRAITS OF A MENTOR:
- You love youth and participating in youth related activities
- You are supportive
- You are flexible and non-judgmental
- You are an Active Listener
- You push — just enough
- You show up
- You have a sense of humor
- You lend perspective
- You are genuine…and you respect the differences of others
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE: We welcome you to become an adult mentor and make a difference in the lives of our local youth. Studies show youth who meet with mentors are:
- 55% more likely to be enrolled in college than those without a mentor
- 81% more likely to participate regularly in sports or extracurricular activities
- 78% more likely to volunteer regularly in their communities
- 50% more likely to hold a leadership position in a club or sports team
Having a caring adult to turn to for guidance and encouragement can make a crucial difference in the lives of our youth and their chances of success.
By being a positive role model you can improve the life of a child:
“Mentoring helps our youth become good active community members, strengthening our future workforce and our community”.
~Jake Mangas, President and Chief Executive Officer / Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce
